About Me
Hi! I'm Alex, a games programmer based in Bristol and I've been making games for about 7 years. I have recently graduated from the University of the West of England Bristol (UWE Bristol) having earned a Master of Science in Commercial Games Development. During my studies, I have developed strong programming skills with experience in the Unity Game Engine and C# while utilising GitHub for source control and collaboration.
I've had an interest in computers from a very young age. My attention was first drawn to video games in early 2010 when my dad took me to work with him at Microsoft HQ in Redmond, WA. That day was the internal unveiling of the Kinect for Xbox 360. I remember 11 year old me sitting in the auditorium watching the demonstration thinking it was the coolest thing ever! The day got even better as we ended up coming home with our own Kinect as we'd been selected for the beta program. This thoroughly ignited my passion for video games and I've been them playing ever since. Towards the end of my schooling, I decided what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and there was only one clear option... I wanted to make video games. This drove me to choosing computer science, maths and games development at college to set me up to get into UWE.
While at UWE I followed one of my biggest passions and joined the American Football team, the UWE Bullets. Having been taken in by such a fantastic group of people from all walks of life I wanted to give back to the team in my third year and after running for a position on the club’s committee, I was elected to the role of Participation & Equality Officer which I served for 2 years. In this role I was responsible for making sure the club was accessible to as many students as possible and ensuring that any events would be suitable for a diverse range of members as well as supporting my other committee members.
In my final year I was elected Club President which was an incredible honour to represent not only my club, but all of the sports clubs voices at UWE as I was one of three elected to the Student Council by the committees of my fellow clubs. As President I founded the first 2nd Team for a University American Football Team in the country to enable the club to continue to grow and teach new players at a grassroots level thanks to the incredible success of the 1st Team. Myself and a handful of senior club members chose to step down to the 2nd Team to help lead and teach the massive influx of new members. We were rewarded for our efforts by being nominated Captains by our coaches and teammates. As President I had to be highly organised to maintain a smooth running of the club by maintaining regular contact with the SU, BAFRA, and our coaches. At the end of my final year I was honoured to be awarded SU Sports Full Colours for my high level of commitment and contributions to sport at UWE.
